Developed in the United States by Frank Mahony. Hyperton-X is a form of Applied Kinesiology which means the study of muscular movement. A revolutionary method which is an effective, gentle approach to total mind and body integration through the release of muscular tension. Hyperton-X is completely non-invasive and does not involve, manipulation procedures.

What Causes Hypertonus?
Any sudden extreme movement as in whiplash, sports and physical injuries, long term high stress levels, experiencing sudden trauma or distress. Overuse, repetitive work or maintaining a posture where muscles are constantly over-stressed, E.g. Sports activities, sitting at a work place for long periods of time such as operating computers, typewriters and driving, In industry, standing/sitting at a work bench, bending, lifting and operating machinery where movements are not only repetitive but often constantly to one side. Carrying a toddler on one hip or a heavy bag on the shoulder can create Hypertonic conditions and postural disorders.
Many of these activities we do on a regular basis and indicates how easy it is for problems to manifest.

What Are the Effects of Muscle Problems?
Chronic or acute Pain, restricted movement, trapped nerves, recurring injuries and weaknesses, muscle spasm, frozen shoulder, sciatica, bad posture, musculo/skeletal and spinal/back problems, headaches, migraines, lethargy, diminished physical co-ordination, mental confusion and learning disorders.

What Are Hypertonic Muscles?
A Hypertonic condition is one of extreme tension. Hypertonic muscles can be over resistive to stretch, as in restricted movement, or in an over protective state. This can he caused by various, factors i.e. an injury, bad posture, trauma, illness or when the spindle cells in our muscle fibres become confused and they operate a protective injury response within the muscle even when there is no injury. The muscle is then in a super protective state, and can affect specific muscle fibres to become fatigued and skeletal support fibres may he recruited to make up the deficit and Hypertonic muscles result.
The weakened condition of Hypertonic Muscles or muscle groups impair muscle co-ordination and efficiency. Acute or chronic pain, physical, structural and emotional disturbances can be experienced. The tension and torquing which occurs inhibit many functioning and signaling. Hypertonic muscles do not always manifest as pain and their effects can be at a very subtle level. Few of us realise the physiological links between the mind and body. Generally we separate them into structural, physical or mental, when in fact their collective physiological responses are vital to our every function and it is important to bear this in mind.

Why Muscle Problems Affect Our Overall Health
The Spindle Cells located within the fibres of muscles are neurological sensors and are part of a complex transmitting, process called the Pro-prioceptor System. Proprioceptors are specialised sensory nerve endings found in tendons, joints, ligaments, skin and in the connective tissue which ensheaths muscle. These provide the central nervous system with complex data regarding the position and condition of the body. It does this by monitoring internal changes through muscular activity, movement and co-ordination. This continual flow of information from muscle to brain like an electrical circuit, is processed by the cerebellum which acts as a computer, correlator and compensator. It is the interaction of these various sensory processes that determine the action and state of a muscle in order that it may perform in smooth controlled manner and also protect itself  when injured. Therefore if a breakdown in this internal communication exists, where the Proprioceptors become disorientated, it causes jamming and confusion of the sensory information in the central nervous system - similar to blowing a fuse - which influences muscle tension, weakness and muscle compensation.

How Hyperton-X Works
The principles of Hyperton-X are based upon the relationship between muscles which are in a Hypertonic state and their negative influences on major body systems and structures. Namely the glandular and respiratory systems, the musculo/tendon, Spinal/pelvic, cranial and the cerebral spinal fluid. The C.S.F is a major biological fluid vital to our physiological balance which includes the transportation of hormones nutrients, neuro-transmitters and the removal of waste products from our central nervous system. Reference to a basic physiology book will help you understand the importance of these vital systems. A blocking in any of these areas create imbalances within the body as a “whole” causing symptoms from the uncomfortable to the distressing.

How Hyperton-X Helps
Hyperton-X removes this confused state. It relieves pain and stress by identifying, assessing and releasing extreme muscle tension held in key muscles which are related to the integration of the whole brain, mind and body. Thus benefiting overall well-being, balance and musculo-skeletal problems, it is worth bearing in mind that Muscles move bones. Hyperton-X also stimulates the body’s natural processes for healing and repair.

Who Can Benefit
Anyone with the aforementioned disorders but it is specifically exciting for sportsmen and women at all levels.
Applied Kinesiology technique., of which Hyperton-X is related, received wide acclaim at the 1984 Olympics Where
Dr. Leroy Perry in America used it very successfully on Athletes from many countries.

The concept of Hyperton-X produces, a more integrated muscle response which leads to enhanced and optimum performance. It also increases flexibility, co-ordination and overall balance. Hyperton-X comes into its own as an effective treatment for most injuries, generating fast results along with its ability to stimulate healing and repair. Conventional treatment time can often he reduced considerably. Hyperton-X muscle release can be used as a preventative, as the technique lessens the chances of injury - an ideal consideration for the start of a new Season - or it can be of benefit if used as a maintenance procedure, where an overhaul every 6 - 8 weeks helps to keep the athlete switched on and maintain form.
By means of this very Holistic approach an equilibrium within the body is produced which leads to a greater sense of health, functioning and performance and therefore useful to everyone.
