FRANK MAHONY , creator of HYPERTON-X, Total Body/Mind Integration, conducted workshops worldwide, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, England, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland and many other countries.
Due to its versatility, HYPERTON-X may be applied to a wide variety of difficulties in learning, sports and physical therapy. Therefore, workshops are attended by a wide range of therapists in sports, natural medicine and education, athletes, coaches, and business people.
HYPERTON-X gets its name because it deals with identifying and releasing the hypertonic state of muscles which was found to have a direct effect on body/mind integration by Frank Mahony. Frank entered into the holistic field because he had chronic back problems and became intrigued with acupressure which he then began to study. This led him into Touch For Health and he became a TFH instructor. In TFH, he was introduced to the cross-crawl concept and learned about various energy systems and how they were related to processing information and body/mind integration. After discussing some of these concepts with a friend, he was invited to apply these concepts to a group of struggling students. The results were so impressive that Frank decided to explore the possibilities further. Subsequently, in 1982, he became an associate of Paul Dennison, who developed Edu-Kinesthetics. At that time Frank and Paul were primarily using concepts they had learned in Touch For Health. With the more difficult cases, Frank found that these corrections were not holding consistently. He was introduced to a technique called Sacral Occipital Technique, which focused on the interaction of Cerebral Spinal Fluid, the Cranial bones and the spine. Frank then began to look at the relationship of muscles to the pelvis and occiput and addressed the problem of muscles causing restriction rather than being weak. This was the beginning of HYPERTON-X.
From 1982 to 1986, Frank functioned as director of the Burbank office of the Valley Remedial Group where he refined and applied his techniques to the learning impaired (dyslexics etc.). In 1984 he worked with members of the Puma Energizer Track Club in Santa Monica prior to the Olympic trials.
HYPERTON-X methods are being employed by therapists working with world class athletes in many countries. One sports therapist was invited by the U.S. Olympic walking team to make a presentation at their National Meeting and she featured Mahony’s technique as the cornerstone of her work.
